Aye Htut Mo Mo, Myanmar
Duke University – Master in International Development Policy
Conflict Resolution | Peacebuilding | Humanitarian Assistance | Mental Health Support for Peacebuilders
Aye Htut Mo Mo is an accomplished international development and peacebuilding professional from Myanmar, with over a decade of cross-sector experience. For the past eight years, she has served with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), while also actively engaging in grassroots and volunteer initiatives focused on social resilience and community empowerment. Her expertise spans conflict resolution, rule of law, education, and psychosocial support—particularly for peacebuilders, teachers, soldiers, and families affected by the 2021 military coup in Myanmar.
As a seasoned project coordinator and trained mediator, Mo Mo has led and supported initiatives that strengthen ethnic education platforms, non-state civil society organizations, and higher education institutions. She has worked on programs that promote human rights, democratic governance, and access to justice, including providing technical assistance, training, and grants to enhance accountability in Myanmar’s legal and education systems.
Her leadership extends to the U.S. Embassy in Rangoon, where she served as the elected Foreign Service National (FSN) Representative for USAID (2019-2022) and FSN President (2023–2025). In this role, she successfully advocated for expanded medical coverage for local staff and helped implement diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives, cultural exchange programs, and community-building activities across embassy and USAID offices.
Mo Mo’s grassroots advocacy is grounded in community-level peacebuilding. She coordinates vocational training for marginalized youth, supports trauma recovery for internally displaced persons (IDPs), and assists families of political prisoners. Since 2021, she has served as the logistics and funding coordinator for the “Yay Kyi Yar Ta Khu” volunteer group, based in Chiang Mai, which provides sustained psychosocial and educational support to civil society actors and CDM participants.
Raised in a family personally affected by political imprisonment, Mo Mo brings a deep personal commitment to peace and reconciliation. She believes that lasting peace in Myanmar can only be achieved through inclusive dialogue and nonviolent negotiation among all stakeholders.
Mo Mo holds a Level 6 Diploma in Business Management and Human Resources from the Association of Business Executives (UK) and a bachelor’s in computer technology from the University of Computer Studies, Yangon.
As a Rotary Peace Fellow at Duke University, she is committed to deepening her knowledge of sustainable peacebuilding strategies and advancing development solutions that can bring lasting stability to Myanmar and beyond.
