Professional Background

Dominique Déry became the Program Coordinator for the Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Center in 2019. She received her B.A. in Philosophy and Religious Studies from McMaster University and her Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University. At Duke, she specialized in the history of political theory as well as the relationship between religion and politics around the world. Her dissertation focused on connections between compassion, civic friendship, and social justice. Dominique has experience in community outreach, public service, research, teaching, and program development. She has worked with refugees in Nepal and North Carolina, with high school students and teachers across the U.S., and with undergraduate and graduate students at Duke and UNC. In recent years, she has worked at Transplanting Traditions Community Farm, the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book and Manuscript Library, and as Director of the National High School Ethics Bowl. Outside of work she loves to grow flowers and food and to spend time walking in woods or paddling a canoe.
